ITCC-P4 landmark publication published in Cancer Research

The main publication from the ITCC-P4 consortium showcases a collaborative resource to advance drug development for children and adolescents with cancer.

Published in Cancer Research on July 10, 2026, “The ITCC-P4 PDX Platform Enables Preclinical Testing of Pediatric Cancers” presents the results of a major public–private effort to strengthen the scientific foundations of paediatric cancer drug development.

The study describes 353 patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models, in vivo tumour models established from patient samples, covering major high-risk solid childhood cancers. Their detailed molecular characterisation helps researchers select models that are relevant to the biological question and treatment approach being investigated.

Proof-of-concept studies in neuroblastoma and rhabdomyosarcoma illustrate how combining molecular information with drug testing can help identify potential markers of treatment response and inform the prioritisation of therapies for further development.

This publication marks an important milestone for the ITCC-P4 consortium and the researchers, clinicians, industry partners and families whose contributions made this work possible.

Building on this foundation, ITCC-P4 gGmbH supports academic and industry partners with scientific advice for preclinical development planning, molecular data analysis and preclinical studies conducted through its three partner CROs. By bringing these capabilities together, ITCC-P4 helps developers address key scientific questions, design relevant studies and interpret findings to guide the next development decision.
